Planned Surgery Coming Up?

- Why Preparing Early with a Knee Walker Can Make All the Difference
If you've got a date in the diary for planned surgery on your foot, ankle or lower leg, chances are you've already been told you’ll be non-weight bearing for several weeks afterwards. That means no standing, no walking - and a change in how you’ll manage daily life during recovery.
It can feel like a lot to take in, but preparing ahead of time with the right mobility aid can make a world of difference to your comfort, confidence, and recovery.
Why Planning Ahead Helps
While hospitals often supply crutches or a Zimmer frame after surgery, these aids can be awkward, uncomfortable, and difficult to use - especially when you're already tired or in pain. If you know you'll be non-weight bearing, or otherwise needing crutches for a few weeks, it’s worth considering a knee walker (sometimes called a knee scooter) well in advance.
Many people find that getting their knee walker a few days before surgery gives them time to:
- Get familiar with how it works
- Practice moving safely around the house
- Adjust the height and knee pad for maximum comfort
- Work out where you’ll need to make space (tight corners, doorways, etc.)
- Build confidence before you actually need to rely on it
Benefits of Using a Knee Walker After Surgery
A knee walker is designed specifically for recovery following surgery or other damage to your foot or ankle, offering a safer, more comfortable alternative to crutches.
Here’s why so many people choose one for post-op recovery:
- Comfort – Our padded knee rest keeps your injured leg supported, while your good leg does the work—no upper body strain like with crutches.
- Stability – Our knee walkers provide a secure, balanced base, when scooting of standing.
- Mobility – Navigate your home and outdoor areas more smoothly than you could with crutches or a frame.
- Independence – Carry items in the attached basket, use both hands safely, and go about your day more easily.
When to Order Your Knee Walker
We recommend receiving your knee walker at least 2–4 days before your surgery date. This gives you time to:
- Set it up (no tools required)
- Adjust it to suit your height
- Practice turning, braking, and stopping
- Familiarise yourself with how it works in your home or workspace
All StrideOn knee walkers are simple to assemble and come with a User Guide, but it’s always easier when you’re not recovering at the same time. And if you have any questions, our friendly customer service team is always happy to help.
Choosing the Right Knee Walker for You
At StrideOn, we offer two models to suit different recovery needs:
