Louise Walks 20 Miles on One Leg with an Orthomate for Charity
By Lydia Lucas

A Story of Determination and Community Spirit
On 22nd March 2025, Louise Scott achieved something truly remarkable: she completed a 20-mile charity walk—all while using a StrideOn Orthomate knee walker.
The event was part of a fundraising initiative organised by Happy Somedays, celebrating five years of inclusion and community support. For Louise, who was recovering from a lower leg injury, taking part meant more than just getting from A to B. It was about proving that recovery doesn’t have to mean missing out. Choosing the Right Support for the Journey
Rather than relying on crutches or staying on the sidelines, Louise turned to the Orthomate knee walker, knowing she needed a mobility aid that could go the distance - literally.
Built with pneumatic tyres and a sturdy, comfortable knee pad, the Orthomate is designed for outdoor terrain, making it a perfect match for long-distance walking. The adjustable handlebars, solid frame, and built-in parking brake gave Louise the confidence to move safely and comfortably, even over 20 miles. In Louise’s Words "When I first decided to take part in the walk, I wasn’t sure it would be possible. But the Orthomate gave me the freedom to do something I thought I’d have to miss out on. It was so stable, comfortable, and easy to use—and I honestly don’t think I could have completed the distance without it." – Louise Scott More Than a Mobility Aid
Louise’s story is a powerful reminder that with the right mobility aid, recovery doesn't mean you have to stop doing what you planned (?). It’s about striding forward, and finding new ways to stay involved in the things such as – your community, friends, family, and events.
Whether you're recovering from surgery or facing a period of restricted mobility, the StrideOn Orthomate is more than a knee walker - it’s a way to regain independence and keep doing what you love.
