• Knee walkers and broken ankles

  •  One of the most common reasons people hire or buy one of our StrideOn knee walkers is for a broken ankle.

We have found many people hire our knee scooters for this type of injury due to the length of recovery time (usually 6 – 8 weeks). Our hire service allows you to use the StrideOn or Orthomate for as long as you need for a weekly cost. You can extend the hire if needed and we also offer free delivery and returns.

You can find out more about our hiring service here >

We have found some of the information on the NHS website about what you can do to help your recovery:

It's important to follow any advice you're given by the hospital or fracture clinic.

There are some things you can do to ease pain and help your broken ankle recover.

    Do
    • Rest and raise your ankle whenever possible
    • Take a painkiller to ease the pain (Of course check with your doctor before you go down this path)
    • Gently move your toes and bend your knee while wearing the boot or cast to ease stiff muscles
    • Do discuss an exercise regime with your physiotherapist once you are out of your cast

    • Using a StrideOn Knee Scooter will help reduce atrophy and contribute to your daily exercise.

    Don’t
    • Do not get your plaster cast wet (we can help with our cast protectors.)
    • Do not carry heavy things
    • Do not move your ankle too much
    • Do not use anything to scratch under your cast

Did you know that we also sell cast protectors?

We have the ankle and leg cast protector which are waterproof and ideal for showering and bathing when wearing a cast.

Which Knee walker is best for me?

If you are looking for more support around the house, then we suggest the StrideOn. It is the most manoeuvrable, sturdy and stable knee walker in the market due to it’s unique 90 degree patented turning circle.
However, if you want to go out and about while recovering then we recommend the Orthomate with its wide pneumatic tyres for additional comfort over uneven terrain.
